Wisconsin House Stagecoach Inn
Hazel Green, Wisconsin, USA.
Wisconsin House was built in 1846 at a time when lead mining in the area was at its zenith. It was clearly well constructed being one of only a handful of houses to survive a devastating tornado which hit the town in 1876.
It is said that President Ulysses S Grant stayed at the inn on several occasions - being a friend of the then owner - and is known to have last visited in August 1868.
Offering just eight guest rooms and bed & breakfast accommodation, Wisconsin House is within reasonable driving distance of Chicago, and close to the border with Illinois.
