The Saracen's Head
Towcester, Northamptonshire, England.
With a heritage dating back at least four centuries, The Saracen’s Head has a rich local history. It is, however, its connection with Charles Dickens for which it is most renowned – the inn features in the author’s very first novel, The Pickwick Papers:
'I say,' remonstrated Bob Sawyer, looking in at the coach window, as they pulled up before the door of the Saracen's Head, Towcester, 'this won't do, you know.'
Quite rightly Grade II listed, much of the existing fabric of the building dates from the 1700’s and the architectural historian will certainly find much to ponder.
The Saracen’s Head offers 21 guest rooms in total, a restaurant and bar. It is ideally located for those visiting Towcester Racecourse (just a few minutes walk). Banbury, Milton Keynes and Buckingham are all just a short drive away.
