Lake Country House Hotel
Llangammarch Wells , Powys, Wales.
Its structure has been described as an ‘architectural bagatelle’ - a mix of mock-Tudor and somewhat more colonial influences. This, though, is unsurprising given that the original house - built in 1840 - was largely remodelled at the turn of the century.
Originally a hunting and fishing lodge, during the early twentieth century the hotel became the only barium spa resort outside Germany. It may well have been this that attracted Kaiser Wilhelm II to Lake in 1912 – his mission, apparently, was simply to relax: something very little of Europe was able to do two years later.
Set amid 50 acres of its own grounds, Lake Country House features a total of 30 guest rooms all of which are individually designed and furnished. The public lounges have a distinctly period feel to them, while its 2 AA Rosette restaurant specializes in what has been described as “modern Celtic cuisine”.
The hotel’s spa includes an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor hot tub which overlooks the water.
Located just a few miles from Builth Wells, the northern fringes of the Brecon Beacons are less than half an hour away by car.
