Hotel d'Inghilterra
Rome, Italy.
Dating back to the 16th century in parts, this former aristocratic residence close to the Spanish Steps was once home to the Princes of Torlonia – one of Rome’s richest families who acquired a fortune through finance.
During its time as a hotel, however, the building has welcomed an array of international celebrities and literary icons. It was at the Hotel d’Inghilterra that the likes of Lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and John Keats came to stay, with authors such as Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain visiting during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Today, it offers 89 rooms and suites, a restaurant, café and “Bond Bar” which boasts a British feel. Many of the city’s most notable sights are within easy walking distance, including the Trevi Fountain.
