Stevenson House
Edinburgh, Scotland.
This Georgian Townhouse on Edinburgh’s Heriot Row dates from the first decade of the nineteenth century, and retains much of the period charm its most notable former resident would have known.
Indeed, it was here that Robert Louis Stevenson lived from the age of six (he was born at Howard Place, also in Edinburgh) and where he was cared for through his numerous childhood illnesses by his mother and nurse Alison Cunningham.
Today, Stevenson House offers bed & breakfast accommodation via just two guest rooms. One of these is the “Master Bedroom” which would have been that of the author’s parents, and features a four-poster bed, while the twin room affords the visitor views across the Firth of Forth.
The property features several other rooms for the use of guests, all of which are furnished in keeping with the heritage of the building.
