Chateau de Mirambeau
Mirambeau, Poitou Charentes, France.
Although a significant proportion of the building one sees today was constructed only in the first half of the 19th century, the ancient vaulted foundations of the original medieval fortress are still visible today.
Indeed, it is said that Henry II of England visited Mirambeau during 1259, and that Louis XIII of France spent a night here in 1622. As such, the property boasts a particularly fine historic pedigree and is, perhaps, the perfect example of the type of accommodation that Nights in the Past sets out to champion.
A member of the renowned Relais & Chateaux chain, the hotel offers 14 guest rooms and nine suites and junior suites. Classically furnished, every one differs from the next with some featuring panelling, and others upholstered walls. Minimalist-contemporary it is not, and nor should it be. Grand opulence is the theme here.
Chateau de Mirambeau also boasts spa facilities, a fitness room, both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and tennis courts.
