Castello di Casiglio
Erba, Lombardy, Italy.
There are parts of this splendid old fortress which date back as far as the 1100’s, making it one of the most ancient places offering accommodation in the whole of Italy.
As befits a place of such age, it has a fair few stories to tell and historic names associated with it. During the early sixteenth century it was the property of Cardinal Beltramino, and much of its present structure dates back to this period.
The future King Vittorio III (Victor Emmanuel) is said to have been a visitor during the late 1800’s while still Crown Prince.
Today, the hotel offers 45 guest rooms, a restaurant, bar and outdoor swimming pool. Milan is around half an hour’s drive to the south, while Como is just a few miles away to the west.
