Originally a convent and later fortified to become a castle, this history-rich building dates back, in parts, to the mid-1600’s.
Having been owned by several families (including relatives of Napoleon), Castello San Giuseppe became the property of the poet Giuseppe Bianchi who entertained many notable figures from the artistic world of Italy during the late 19th century; the actress Eleonora Duse and composer Arrigo Boito among them. Other famous guests include Ginger Rogers who stayed here during the period when it was owned by Giovanni Perona.
