Chateau de la Treyne
Souillac, Midi Pyrenees, France.
Situated on the famous River Dordogne, Chateau de la Treyne is an undeniably beautiful four-star rated hotel in possession of a rich history.
Much of the present building dates from the 17th century, although parts of the original 14th century structure remain (the property was badly damaged during the French Wars of Religion during the late 1500’s). Famous former guests are reputed to include Henry of Navarre (who would go on to reign as King of France between 1589 and 1610), with one of the guest rooms being named in his honour.
It offers only 16 suites and rooms in all, of which the Prison Doree Apartment is situated in the original XIV century square tower. Others include the Gothique luxury room with its four-poster; the Soleil Levant within the old chapel; and the Cardinale (also within the tower). All are classically furnished to an exceptional degree. The hotel also boasts a tennis court and heated swimming pool, while its restaurant is home to the Michelin star chef Stéphane Andrieux (at time of writing).
With airports at both Bergerac and Brive, the hotel is ideally located for those wishing to explore the wider area of mid South-Western France and the Dordogne.
