Parador de Alcaniz
Teruel, Aragon, Spain.
After Martin of Aragon (also known as Martin the Humane) died in 1410, a two-year interregnum followed due. With no living heirs, various contenders for the throne were considered, but it wasn’t until a long consultation between numerous ambassadors that Martin’s nephew, Ferdinand, was proclaimed the new king. And it was here in the Parador de Alcaniz, that the very agreement, La Concordia, was signed.
Indeed, the Parador’s alternative name – Hotel la Concordia – bears testament to this fact. But the history of the place runs far deeper, with its origins reputed to date back as far as the 12th century. Other notable figures to have spent time here include King James I of Aragon, and Saint Vincent Ferrer.
The Parador de Alcaniz possesses 37 guest rooms in all, its own restaurant, and a bar.
