Chateau de Rochecotte
Saint Patrice, Centre, France.
Dating largely from the 18th century and embellished by successive owners, Chateau de Rochecotte is notable in the historic sense for several reasons.
First of these is that in 1828 it became the property of Duchess Dorothée of Dino (also known as Princess Dorothea of Gourland) who later described it as having "the most beautiful view". Famous visitors to the property include the 19th century French Prime Minister Adolphe Thiers, the writer Honore de Balzac, and King George IV.
Today it features over 30 guest bedrooms and suites, an outdoor swimming pool, and boasts several dining options.
With Saumur and Tours equidistant to the west and east respectively, Chateau de Rochecotte is certainly an ideal base from which to discover the great chateaux of the Loire region. And plentiful they are indeed.
