Chateau de la Bourdaisiere
Near Tours, Centre, France.
There are features of this impressive old building which point to its medieval origins, not least the remaining dry moats to the east and the north of the structure. Indeed, the architectural historian will find much to admire and cogitate.
Its most famous owner was, perhaps, Marie Gaudin, who was called by many the “most beautiful lady of the time”. Indeed, her pulchritude caught the eye of King Francis I which resulted in her becoming his mistress.
Notable visitors include Henri IV who stayed at the chateau in May 1535 following his signing of l’Edit de Nantes (a recognition of the Huguenots), and the Duke of Windsor in 1937.
Boasting 20 guest rooms, an outdoor heated swimming pool, restaurant and bar, Chateau de la Bourdaisiere is situated just a few miles to the east of Tours near the village of Montlouis-sur-Loire.
