Schlosshotel Cecilienhof
Potsdam, near Berlin, Germany.
The Cecilienhof looks for all-the-world like a grand English country house of the Elizabethan era. The truth, however, is that it was built between 1914 and 1917 by Wilhelm II for his son and daughter-in-law. However, its most notable historic significance relates to the aftermath of World War II.
It was here that in 1945 Churchill, Stalin, and Truman met to discuss the future of Germany with the Potsdam Conference taking place between the 17th of July and the 2nd of August that year. The talks included matters concerning the future prosecution of Nazi war criminals, reparations to the Soviet Union and the new borders of the country.
Today, Cecilienhof is a 41-room 4-star hotel where discussions in the bar are a little more relaxed than they were over 70 years ago. Dining options at Cecilienhof are to be found at the hotel’s Castle Restaurant, while the Hofgarten beer garden is open between April and October.
The city of Berlin is just a few miles to the north east of the hotel.
