Within easy reach of Le Mans, Vendome and Amboise, Chateau de la Barre is a sophisticated boutique hotel which is also home to Count and Countess de Vanssay.
Although largely dating from the 16th and 17th centuries (with later interior refurbishment), the history of the estate goes far further back in time. Indeed, members of the family are said to have been present at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Once described by the Sunday Times as the “best chateau chambres d’hotes by a stretch”, de la Barre offers beautifully furnished accommodation via 5 guest rooms. These include the Chambre aux Fleurs (said to have been built during the Hundred Years’ War) and the Chambre Esprit de Jouy which boasts a genuine Louis XVI bed. Meanwhile, the Chambre Marin de Vanssay will undoubtedly appeal to those who adore opulent French period décor.
Enthusiasts of self-catering might also be interested to learn of the chateau’s small XVI century manor which is also set within the walls of the estate. It offers two apartments: Les Glycines (2 people), and Lilas, which can accommodate 4-5.
