Hotel Krafft
Basel, Switzerland.
Welcoming guests to Basel since 1873, Hotel Krafft is located right on the banks of the Rhine at the heart of the city.
While its relatively modernist décor might not be to the taste of the average heritage-enthusiast, the place does have a notable historic claim-to-fame: it was here that author Hermann Hesse spent much time writing a significant proportion of his classic book, Steppenwolf. Indeed, the very room (4.1) is that in which he is said to have stayed.
There are sixty guest rooms in all (twelve in an annexe to the main house), a restaurant and bar.
