The White Hart Royal

Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, England.
Charingworth Manor, Chipping Campden
Dating from the Tudor period - though with much remodelling undertaken at later dates - the White Hart Royal is a joy for any architectural historian. Indeed, it would be possible to spend hours deciphering how it has evolved over the centuries.

However, while the building itself is fascinating, its most notable historic claim-to-fame is that King Charles I stayed within its walls on the 2nd of July 1644 (the same day as the Battle of Marston Moor where his Royalist troops were routed by the Parliamentarians).

These days the White Hart Royal is a much more serene place to stay than it would have been during the English Civil War. And given the fact that its restaurant has been awarded an AA Rosette, we can be fairly sure that the dining is much improved, too.

Perfectly located for those wishing to explore the Cotswolds, the hotel also features a select number of pet-friendly bedrooms for those travelling with their dogs. Other guest rooms include the King Charles Suite and a number of four-poster options.

The White Hart Royal is a true piece of English heritage, of that there can be no doubt.
