Hotel Elefant
Salzburg, Austria.

Situated just off the famous Getreidegasse, this popular hotel is located within one of the city’s oldest buildings. Indeed, the hotel itself has reputedly been in existence for over 400 years.
Its name and historic significance relate to Maximillian II (later the Holy Roman Emperor) who supposedly stayed here in the 1550’s with a pet elephant called Suleiman – the poor creature having been presented to him by King John III of Portugal.
Indeed, it is a great shame that the hotel does not make more of its history - surely many more great names must have passed through its doors over the centuries.
The hotel possesses 31 guest bedrooms, a restaurant and bar. Sites such as the Mirabell Castle, Festival Hall and Mozart’s Birthplace are all nearby.
