Hotel Negresco
Nice, Provence, France.
Named after its founder, Henri Negresco, this seafront landmark of Nice is barely more than a century old. Built in 1912 (and officially designated a Historic Monument in 1974), this certainly isn’t the oldest hotel on the French Riviera, but still demands inclusion for the sheer wealth of early-to-mid 20th century notables to have rested within its walls.
Walk through the door of Hotel Negresco and you’ll be treading the same ground as Sir Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali. And then there are Hollywood names such as Brigitte Bardot, Frank Sinatra and Clint Eastwood; politicians such as Nicholas Sarkozy and… we could go on. And no doubt they’ll keep coming.
Those with a penchant for period décor certainly won’t be disappointed. Rooms are individually furnished, and suites such as the Imperial, Monsterrat Caballe, and Mistinguette as diverse as any you’ll find in any hotel anywhere in the world.
Hotel Negresco is located on the Promenade des Anglais and is, unsurprisingly, five star rated.
