The Abbot's Inn
Charmouth, Dorset, England.
With regret, The Abbot's House is not currently offering bed & breakfast accommodation. This is a legacy page.
Built by the last Abbott of Forde Abbey, this medieval house only became a hotel in the last century when it was named the Queens Armes - this on account that Catherine of Aragon had reputedly once been a guest, although the event was never documented.
Previous to that it had been an inn, and it is widely believed that the future King Charles II awaited passage to France with a fellow by the name of Stephen Limbry.
Restored in 2007, it provides three double or twin rooms, each named after figures connected to the locality: Mary Anning (a noted 19th century fossil hunter); James Crowden (poet and historian); and Thomas Chard (the last Abbot of Forde Abbey).
Lyme Regis is but a few miles away to the west, while Axminster is within easy reach to the north. Learn more at The Abbot’s House site.
