The Shelbourne Hotel
Dublin, Ireland.
A city landmark since 1824, the Shelbourne has been recently restored - though thankfully without altering the classic ambience of the building. The hotel offers over 250 rooms, of which 12 of the suites are named after famous guests associated with the hotel - most renowned of these is the Princess Grace Suite favoured once by Grace Kelly.
In 1922, room 112 became central to the development of the Irish nation - it was here that Michael Collins created the first draft of the Irish Constitution.
Authors James Joyce and William Makepeace Thackeray also paid homage to the hotel in their works, while it is also suggested that Alois Hitler (Adolf Hitler’s half-brother) worked at The Shelbourne during the early twentieth century.
The author of Dracula, Bram Stoker, is another esteemed former guest, as indeed is Charles Dickens who stayed at the hotel in March 1867.
