The Ship Inn
Near Castle Douglas, Scotland.
Dating from the late 19th century, The Ship’s main historic claim to fame is that it was here that Dorothy L Sayers wrote Five Red Herrings, one of her novels and stories featuring Lord Peter Wimsey.
It should be noted that the place was known as the Anworth Hotel back then, but she was certainly heaped praise upon the landlord of the time.
The Ship is undoubtedly a classic old Scottish inn, and offers just ten guest rooms in addition to its own restaurant.
