Grand Hotel Gardone
Gardone Riviera, Lombardy, Italy.

Dating from 1884 and reputed to be the first hotel to be built on Lake Garda, the Grand Hotel Gardone’s elegance was soon attracting discerning travellers from all over Europe.
Famous names to have sojourned here include King George of Saxony in 1903, Benito Mussolini, and Sir Winston Churchill in 1949.
The world of arts and literature is also represented in the metaphorical guest book, with the likes of Italian poet Gabriel d’Annunzio in 1921, English playwright Somerset Maugham, and novelist Vladimir Nabokov (1965) all spending time at the hotel.
Today, the 4-star Grand Hotel Gardone boasts in excess of 160 rooms and features two restaurants (one of which, the “Lemon Garden”, is located by the swimming pool).
However, arguably the most notable feature of the hotel is its impressive lakeside terrace – some 300 metres in length.
