Castillo del Buen Amor
Villanueva de Canedo, Castile y Leon, Spain
Reputed to date back to the fifteenth century (although with a heritage stretching back to the eleventh), Castillo del Buen Amor has rightfully been a protected building since the 1930’s.
Naturally, a building of such great age will always be in possession of a colourful history. Indeed, its very name “Buen Amor” is said to be derived from it having been the scene of trysts between the then Bishop of Santiago (a former owner) and his lover.
It is thought that King Ferdinand I may have also stayed here.
The hotel offers over 40 guest rooms, a restaurant, bar and an outdoor swimming pool which is open during the warmer months. Salamanca is around 15 miles to the south, and Zamora a little further to the north.
