Chateau de Cocove
Near Calais, Nord pas de Calais, France.

Built in 1741 by Bequet de Cocove (an advisor to King Louis XV), this fine chateau hotel is but a short drive south of Calais in the village of Recques-sur-Hem close to the A26.
Its main historic significance is that it was here that Marshal Ney – the legendary military commander of the French Revolutionary Wars and ally of Napoleon – organized lavish parties. Alas, he would ultimately end up being executed by firing squad in Paris in 1815 (although rumour persists that he somehow managed to escape and flee to America).
The present hotel features 22 guest rooms including singles, doubles and deluxe (the latter with some of the best views of the chateau’s parkland). It also features a noted restaurant and an extensive wine cellar.
Benefiting from a rural location, yet within easy reach of the Calais ferry port and Channel Tunnel, Chateau de Cocove is unsurprisingly popular as a first or last place to stay for those travelling from the UK to holiday in France.
