Coombe Abbey Hotel
Coventry, Warwickshire, England.
Founded as a Cistercian abbey in 1150, the present day building still features stone cloisters from the early 1500‘s.
It was here that James I sent his daughter Princess Elizabeth to be educated in 1603, with the later West Wing of the house (constructed circa 1682) being designed by none other than Captain William Winde (also known for his design of Buckingham House).
Also of note is that the famous landscape architect Capability Brown was involved in the redesign of the gardens in 1771.
Operating as a hotel since 1994, Coombe Abbey today boasts over 100 rooms (including a number of flagship feature rooms) and is 5-star rated. Coventry, Rugby, Nuneaton and Royal Leamington Spa are all just a short drive away.
