Ala d'Oro
Lugo, Emilia Romagna, Italy.
Built during the early 18th century by Conte Giovanni Rosso, the palace that now houses the Ala d’Oro was reputed to have been the most beautiful house in Lugo when it was first constructed.
Its most notable historic significance is that the aristocratic Contessa Cornelia Rossi Martinetti was born here in January 1781. Renowned for her beauty and charm, she would go on to rub shoulders with many of the era’s artistic and literary types, Lord Byron and Gioacchino Rossini amongst them.
Its 40 guest rooms are split between the old house and the converted stables (the latter with a more modern feel), with small to medium sized dogs being most welcome.
Bologna is little over half an hour away by car, while Ravenna is some 10 miles to the east.
