The Royal Hotel
Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, England.
A famous landmark in the world-renowned town of Ross-on-Wye, The Royal Hotel is a grade-2 listed building which dispenses hospitality to guests from around the globe.
Since being built in 1837, the hotel is said to have been frequented by many famous names, including Queen Victoria. That said, its main historic credential is without doubt its connection to Charles Dickens who is thought to have planned his American biography while a guest.
It is also said that the building itself was constructed on the foundations of a 13th century Bishop’s Palace.
The Royal Hotel possesses 42 guest bedrooms in total, some of which are described as “romantic feature rooms”, while single rooms are to be found in the old stable block.
Located next to the Church of St Mary, the hotel is but a few minutes walk from the town centre and its shops. The M50 motorway is also just a few miles drive away, while the border with Wales and the town of Monmouth are easily accessed via the A40.
