Quinta do Scoto

Little more than 12 miles from Lisbon in the county of Sintra, Quinta do Scoto is a splendid old manor house offering highly commended bed & breakfast accommodation.
Dating from 1746, there are plenty of original and period features to be found, including thousands of handmade tiles that date from the early 1700’s.
Arguably its greatest claim-to-fame, however, is that the Marquis de Pombal (Minister for the Kingdom of Portugal under King Joseph I) spent his last night at the house prior to banishment by Queen Maria (who is said to have detested him) in 1777.
It offers a total of eight suites, six of which (the Sr. Miguel, Dona Maria, Marquis de Pombal, Dove Cote, Count Redondo and Dom Fernando) are within a recently converted barn. The Adega Suite, meanwhile, is within an annexe to the main house, while the Sr. Meira Suite is situated within the Casa itself. The property also boasts a swimming pool, while those seeking to explore the area will find plenty to discover – both Mafra and Obidos are within easy reach, while the historic city of Lisbon is also just a short drive away.
