The Fleece
Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England.

Located at the centre of Cirencester - once the second largest Roman town in England - the Fleece Hotel’s historic claim-to-fame is immortalised in the name of its “1651 Bar & Restaurant”.
It was here in September of that year the future King Charles II hid from Parliamentarian troops eager to capture him for the £1000 price which had been placed on his head. Posing as Lady Jane Lane’s manservant, he remained undetected before fleeing the country for France. In fact, the hotel itself suggests that Charles and Lady Jane rested in what is now Room 1.
Dating from the mid 17th century, the house would have been relatively new when the fugitive would-be king sought refuge here. But, despite several alterations and extensions over following centuries, he would almost certainly recognize it were he alive today.
Offering 28 guest rooms in all, the Grade-II listed Fleece Hotel allows well behaved dogs.
