The Queens Head
Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire, England
What today is every inch the classic English country inn actually began life as two separate cottages. However, one can assume that if the original 18th century inhabitants were alive today they would almost certainly recognise the place.
Aside from being a Grade-II listed building of some architectural merit, it’s most notable historic significance is that it became a regular meeting place for members of the 8th USAAF Service Command who were stationed at nearby Milton Ernest Hall during World War II. And amongst those men and women who came to partake of its hospitality was none other than Glenn Miller - arguably the most famous bandleader in history.
In addition to the traditional food and drink one expects of a rural inn, The Queen’s Head today offers 12 en suite guest rooms, of which four are situated on the ground floor of the building for accessibility.
The village of Milton Ernest is just a few miles to the north of Bedford, while towns and cities such as Cambridge, Luton, Huntingdon, Milton Keynes and Newport Pagnell are all within easy reach of those travelling by car.
