Whitley Hall Hotel
Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.
It is hard to believe that one of England’s largest cities is only a few miles to the south of this beautiful 16th century house.
With 31 bedrooms, Whitley Hall is a cosy hotel, far removed from the world of corporate hospitality. Indeed, a room in any part of the building is to be closer to centuries gone by, but the romantically inclined - or enthusiast of all-things historic, for that matter - will no doubt want to stay in the West Wing.
It is widely believed that it was in this part of the house that Mary Queen of Scots stayed for a short time while in the custody of the Earl of Shrewsbury. Indeed, it is even suggested that she might have commissioned the decorative ceiling in the ‘Picture Room’.
Today, Whitley Hall features 31 guest bedrooms and a popular AA Rosette restaurant.
Access to and from the M1 motorway is just a few miles away, while the Peak District National Park is also within easy reach for those traveling by car.
