Hotel Randers
Randers, Denmark.
Four-star rated, the Hotel Randers dates back to 1856 and is possibly one of the oldest purpose-built hotels still in operation outside Copenhagen.
With plenty of original period detail to be found, the establishment is certainly proud of its distinguished heritage. Indeed, one of its ‘Antique Rooms’ is named in honour of King Christian X who stayed at the hotel in 1931.
Other notable names connected to the place include Josephine Baker, the comedian Victor Borge, and the world-famous author of fairy tales and poetry, Hans Christian Andersen. The latter is recorded as having stayed at Hotel Randers in July 1865.
Of its 79 guest rooms, 9 are suites and 4 are of the aforementioned ‘antique’ class.
