The Randolph Hotel
Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.
Although we at Nights in the Past prefer to focus on accommodation in buildings that pre-date the Victorian era, we are prepared to make occasional exceptions for landmark hotels such as The Randolph.
Many famous names have sojourned here in its near 150-year history (presidents and other heads of state in particular, according to the hotel itself), and the furnishings and ambience are in keeping with its 19th century origins. Five-star rated, it boasts over 100 guest bedrooms which include four poster rooms, executive suites and a Presidential Suite. Dining options are available at the elegant restaurant, while afternoon tea can be taken in the drawing room. The Morse Bar, meanwhile, is the perfect place to unwind with a drink, and is so named due to its association with scenes from the British television series Inspector Morse.
With the majority of Oxford’s main sights and attractions within walking distance, The Randolph is certainly the ideal place from which the first-time visitor can explore the city.
