The Chapel House
Atherstone, Warwickshire, England.
Located midway between Nuneaton and Tamworth, this Georgian townhouse was originally a dower house to the long-since-gone Atherstone Hall.
Its primary historic significance is that Florence Nightingale was great friends with the Bracebridge Family who lived at the Chapel House during the mid 19th century. Indeed, Selina and Charles Holt Bracebridge were her main benefactors, helping to finance the journey to Scutari and her legendary work during the Crimean War.
As an interesting aside, Prince Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, attended a luncheon reception in the house in 1985.
Dating from 1728 (with later additions) the building offers 12 guest rooms in all, of which 3 are for single occupancy. Its award-winning restaurant boasts an AA Rosette, and features an A la Carte menu which changes daily.
