Grand Hotel Cabourg
Cabourg, Normandy, France.
Although Le Grand Hotel Cabourg isn’t the oldest or most historic of hotels in Normandy, it is certainly one of the most famous.
Built in 1855 and later reconstructed in 1907, its most notable former patron is undoubtedly Marcel Proust. Indeed, the writer was particularly enamoured of the hotel’s “Madeleine Cakes”, even going so far as to immortalize them in the novel Swann’s Way.
There’s no doubt Proust would still feel at home here, especially in one of its Coquatrix Suites with their sea views.
Boasting some 70 rooms, and thus one of the more sizeable hotels along this stretch of the Normandy coast, Grand Hotel Cabourg features two restaurants, Le Plage and Le Balbec, with the latter specialising in seafood and fish. Cabourg Beach and the Casino Gardens are but a short walk away. Visit the Grand Hotel Cabourg website
