Over recent decades this had been a farmhouse, only being converted into a hotel in 2006. Before that, however, it was a genuine castle with a history dating back to 1116 (perhaps even earlier).
Once defended by the Knights Templar, many parts of Can Cuadros that guests experience today date from that time: the archways, watch tower, walls and even a jail. In effect this is the absolute antithesis of lowest-common-denominator modern Spanish hotels.
Offering only seven guest rooms in all (five doubles, one suite and one family room), Can Cuadros is within easy reach of both Barcelona and Lerida.
