Le Pigeonnier du Perron
Availles-en-Chatellerault, Poitou Charentes France.
A rustic old seigneurie from the fifteenth century, Le Pigeonnier du Perron was once part of an estate owned by the famous philosopher, mathematician and physicist Rene Descartes (sometimes referred to as the father of modern philosophy).
Of course, the heated outdoor swimming pool wasn’t around in the early seventeenth century, and one can only wonder what the originator of the phrase “I think, therefore I am” would make of such modern luxuries. Approve, hopefully.
Offering fourteen guest rooms in all, the hotel is within easy driving distance of the famous towns and cities of the neighbouring Centre region – historic Tours and Chinon are both less than 60 miles away as-the-crow-flies.
