Gwydir Castle
Llanwrst, Conwy, Wales.
This Grade-I listed courtyard house is said to date back to around 1500 and is said to have numerous connections to historic events and people (not least the Babington Plot and the Gunpowder Plot).
The house itself was once the property of Katherine of Berain (Elizabeth I’s cousin) and played host to King Charles I in 1645. Other historical visitors include Inigo Jones, and George V and Queen Mary in 1899.
Gwydir Castle offers B&B accommodation in two rooms: The King’s Room and The Duke of Beaufort’s Chamber.
