Chateau de Goudourville
Goudourville, Midi Pyrenees, France.
Such is the strength of this ancient castle that Simon de Montfort failed to take it after a fearsome siege. Indeed, built in the XI century, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t remain standing for a thousand years more.
Its history is, of course, extremely colourful. But many will be most interested to learn that both Henri IV of France and Pope Clement V stayed at Chateau de Goudourville.
There are six rooms available, including one named after Charles IX (1550-1574) who is known to have stayed here for a number of months.
The border with Aquitaine is close by, and the city of Toulouse little over an hour’s drive away.
