Hotel Groot Warnsborn
Arnhem, The Netherlands
The current building may date back only to the early 1800‘s, but the history of the estate begins in the 15th century when the land was leased out by Duke Arnold of Gelre. But it is its connection to a 20th century icon for which this fine country house is most famed.
Writing to her grandmother, Anne Frank clearly enjoyed happy times at Groot Warnsborn: “Isn’t it lovely here”, she noted on a postcard during her stay in 1941.
Today, this 4-star hotel boasts a total of 40 rooms, equally divided between the main house and the old coach house. Arnhem itself is just a couple of miles to the south, while Utrecht and the border with Germany are also within easy reach by car.
