Bodkin House
Near Badminton, Gloucestershire, England.
Located just a few miles to the north of Chipping Sodbury in the little village of Petty France, The Bodkin is Grade-II listed 17th century country inn with plenty of traditional charm.
Reputed to have been welcoming travellers since 1671, the building is said to have been patronized by a fair few notable figures. However, the only one we can be certain of is Jane Austen who makes mention of it in her 1817 novel, Northanger Abbey. It is also thought that the author signed her name of one of the upstairs windows with her diamond ring (though no trace seemingly remains).
In keeping with its literary connection, all eleven of its guest rooms are named after female writers. Bodkin house also features a restaurant and bar.
Bristol is little more than 10 miles away to the south west, while Chippenham, Gloucester, Cirencester and Swindon are also within easy driving distance.
