The Driskill Hotel
Austin, Texas, USA.
Built in 1886, the Driskill offers a total of 189 rooms and suites within both the historic wing of the building and the more recent Traditional Wing (1929). The hotel also boasts the five-star “Driskill Grill” restaurant, and a fitness centre (something that would no doubt impress its founder, the cattle trader Jesse Driskill).
The building has more than just a passing connection with President Lyndon Baines Johnson - it was here that he spent his first date with his future wife, Lady Bird, in 1934, and where he awaited the result of his Senate race in 1948.
Situated in downtown Austin, many of the city’s landmarks (such as the Texas State Capitol) are within walking distance of its front door.
