Old Hall Country House. Madeley
On Staffordshire’s border with Cheshire lies the small village of Madeley, and it is here that one of England’s most historic places to stay is situated - a 16th century timber frame former farmhouse within two acres of gardens.
Offering only a handful of rooms, there may be more historic significance per square foot here than in any other hotel, inn or other accommodation property anywhere in the country. After all, only those who stay in the King Charles II room can claim to have as their closet the very place where the then Prince Regent hid from Roundhead troops. In fact, the very shelf upon which he is said to have laid his cross and bible is still in existence.

New Hall. Sutton Coldfield (West Midlands)
Please note: New Hall is located just south of the Staffordshire border, and is included here as there is no specific section for Birmingham hotels.
It is said that New Hall is the oldest surviving moated house in England. Either way, it is certainly a historic gem worthy of its status as a Grade-I listed building.
Much of the existing structure is sixteenth century - including the Great Hall - although it is known that the Earl of Warwick constructed a hunting lodge on the site during the 13th century.
Today, New Hall is a Handpicked Hotel offering four star accommodation and of particular interest to business travellers to Birmingham seeking exceptional accommodation outside the city. For more information visit New Hall’s entry at Lastminute.com, Booking.com, and LateRooms
