Ballygally Castle Hotel
Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Built in 1625 (with later additions being made in the mid 18th century), Ballygally Castle is almost certainly the oldest hotel in Northern Ireland. In fact, it is reputed to be the only 17th century building used as a residence in the whole of Ulster (this being the reason for its inclusion here). A genuine fortress, it is known to have provided refuge to Protestants during the Civil Wars.
The hotel’s 44 bedrooms blend contemporary styling with historic architectural detail, and include the Antrim and Garden Suites. Dining options are available at the Garden Restaurant, while private dining can also be arranged in the dungeon.
