In a beautiful location on the banks of Lake Como, The Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni exudes opulence - unsurprising given its five-star rating. Situated in its own private grounds and gardens, this is, without doubt, one of the best romantic retreats in Italy.
As with many of Europe’s grand hotels - and certainly a large number of those featured on this section of Nights in the Past - many of the continent’s former aristocrats and royals have stayed here. In this case, however, Roosevelt and Churchill are two stand-out historical guests.
The hotel has been run by the same family for three generations, and its Mistral Restaurant was the recipient of a Michelin star in 2005.
