Historic Hotels in New England

Details for Jared Coffin House, MA
Jared Coffin House. Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Its name merely relates to a former owner, with the real historic significance of this quintessential New England building being that one of the most iconic authors of the 19th century formerly stayed within its walls.

Details for Omni Parker House Hotel, Boston
Omni Parker House. Boston.

With over 500 guest rooms, this is almost certainly the largest hotel to be featured on Nights in the Past. But it also happens to boast a very special literary significance.

Details for Fairmont Copley Plaza
Fairmont Copley Plaza. Boston.

It may be barely over a century old, but Copley Plaza has welcomed a fair few notable figures in its relatively short history (not least almost every US President since Taft).

Details for Concord's Colonial Inn
Concord's Colonial Inn. Concord, Massachusetts.

Around 300 years old, one of this old inn’s historic claims-to-fame is that Henry David Thoreau lived in the house for a short while during the 1830’s.

Details for historic Thayer's Inn
Thayer's Inn. Littleton, New Hampshire.

From Presidents to industrialists, this classic New England inn has seen a diverse range of famous figures pass through its doors.

Details for Marriott Wentworth by the Sea, NH
Marriott Wentworth. New Castle, New Hampshire.

Welcoming guests since 1874, it is more an event than a connection to a specific individual that marks out New Hampshire’s Marriott Wentworth by the Sea.

Details for Rosewood Country Inn, NH
Rosewood Country Inn. Bradford, New Hampshire.

It may be modest in size and a long way from Los Angeles, but a fair number of Hollywood figures have passed through the doors of the Rosewood Country Inn.

Details for Green Mountain Inn, VT
The Green Mountain Inn. Stowe, Vermont.

This Vermont country house hotel was something of a preferred destination for well-to-do New England folk in years gone by. Find out more about Green Mountain Inn.

Details for the Inn at Ormsby Hill
The Inn at Ormsby Hill. Manchester Center, Vermont.

Given its association with some of America’s most notable figures from yesteryear, it would be foolish to attempt to compile a list of New England’s most historic hotels without including the Inn at Ormsby Hill.

Details for The Equinox, VT
The Equinox. Manchester Village, Vermont.

Once owned by the granddaughter of Abraham Lincoln, it is actually its links to several later American Presidents that marks out Vermont’s Equinox.
