Walford Court
Leintwardine, Shropshire, England.

How many great figures from history must have passed through the doors of Feathers. Alas, we can only speculate as no written record seems to exist nor verbal testimony forthcoming. But the reason for its inclusion here is not based on any supposed connection with monarchs, literary giants or legends of stage and screen.
Instead, Walford Court isn’t included on Nights in the Past on account if it having played host to great figures from history (although the place does have a passing association with Catherine of Aragon and her first husband, Prince Arthur), but because of its architectural importance.
Most likely built as a courthouse, this lovely building could only be found in England – a part timber-frame structure that has found the most comfortable way to sit during its 500-year existence. Moreover, the grounds themselves are thought to contain an ancient motte & bailey which, in itself, is sited on a prehistoric burial mound.
Providing bed & breakfast accommodation in a setting of which only the most unromantic would disapprove, Walford Court features just three guest bedrooms: the Aragon Suite, Courthouse Suite and Prince Arthur’s Room. Indeed, it is impossible to understand how anyone would conceivably prefer the confines of soulless modernity to that on offer here.
