The 2011 Selection: Pavillon de la Torse

Important note: As with all other accommodation listed in the 2011 Selection, Pavillon de la Torse has been included on merit (i.e. on account of its period character and excellent independent reviews from a variety of sources over the past year). Inclusion is at the discretion of Nights In The Past, and we do not accept suggestions (unlike our regional guides) or solicitation. This, however, does not imply superiority to any other hotel, inn, or bed & breakfast featured upon the site.
Pavillon de la Torse

~ 69 cours Gambetta, 13100 Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France ~

There’s no shortage of fine places to stay in Aix en Provence: Chateau de la Pioline, Villa Gallici and Le Pigeonnet among them.

But while Pavillon de la Torse might not be as high-profile, it is worthy of inclusion here if the reviews of past guests are to be taken at their word.

Situated just a quarter of an hour’s walk from the centre of the city, this award-winning bed & breakfast offers just five guest rooms: Margaux, Pomerol, Saint-Emilion, Saint Estephe and Pauillac.

An 18th century bastide (defined here as a Provencal manor or farm), the existing building was constructed on medieval foundations.

Pavillon de la Torse lies within two-and-a-half acres of private landscaped grounds and gardens, thus providing the visitor with a more rural setting while also being within easy reach of the town.

It also boasts a 25 metre ‘infinity pool’ – a feature not normally associated with the average B&B – free wi-fi, on-site parking, a library and a multimedia room.

Describing itself as a Chambres d’Hotes de Prestige, la Torse certainly offers the visitor to Aix en Provence another exceptional accommodation option.

This site is very much a Labour-of-love, and though we try to make sure that factual information is correct, we simply cannot guarantee accuracy either on this page or on any other. That said, we’re trying to make it the best guide on the internet for period accommodation and historic hotels in Europe. As such, we would love to hear from anyone with information relating to an inn, hotel or bed & breakfast we might have overlooked in our research. We also hope you find the site useful, and check back in the future. Thank you for visiting.
