The Londonderry Arms. Carnlough, County Antrim
Dating back to 1848 when it was constructed as a coaching inn by the Marchioness of Londonderry, this historic old hotel was later owned by Sir Winston Churchill between 1921 and 1936.
Indeed, one of the executive rooms is that which the famous statesman would use when staying at the property.
The hotel is classically furnished and boasts 35 guest rooms in all.

The Old Inn. Crawfordsburn
This fascinating building is made up of parts from several different eras: the old thatched section being from around 1600, further 18th century additions, and a more modern Georgian-style East Wing.
A genuine coaching inn, it’s no surprise that the place has welcomed some notable figures traveling between England and Ireland. Although difficult to authenticate, the likes of Tennyson, Thackeray, Swift and Dickens are all reputed to have visited, although the 20th century literary icon C S Lewis certainly did.
Other famous figures reputed to have connections with The Old Inn include John Paul Jones, Dick Turpin and Peter the Great. How much truth there is in these claims is impossible to tell, but it remains a distinct possibility.

Londonderry
Beech Hill Country House Hotel. Located just a couple of miles from the centre of Londonderry yet within its own extensive parkland, Beech Hill is a grand residence dating from 1739. History travellers will no doubt prefer the old house to the newer part of the hotel, with the junior suites, standard rooms and some of the superior rooms being situated in the former (master suites in the latter). Interestingly, Bill and Hillary Clinton are both esteemed past guests. LateRooms
