Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Taos. Also known as "Las Palomas de Taos" on account of the doves (palomas) which live around the property, it owes its existing name to the wealthy arts patron of the same name. The building (originally constructed from adobe) was enlarged in the early 1920’s and became a popular retreat for artists and writers. Today the property offers 22 rooms, most of which are in the main house its former owner would have known. D. H. Lawrence stayed at the house during September 1922, though it is said he never quite saw eye-to-eye with his hostess. Other notable artistic figures of the time, including Georgia O’Keeffe, also visited. TripAdvisor

Historic Taos Inn. It may not be of any great age (1936), but it’s still welcomes its fair share of icons, D H Lawrence and Greta Garbo amongst them. Booking.com

We are keen to improve and expand Nights In The Past in the future. As such, we would be very grateful to learn of any great places to stay you think we should include in this section. We are seeking all sorts of accommodation providing it is of historic or heritage value, and would appeal to travellers to or from the USA. Boutique hotels, grand hotels, or rural bed & breakfasts are all of interest, but we urge that suggestions are limited to those providing genuinely excellent hospitality. We sincerely hope you enjoy the site and visit again soon.
